A day out in Holt

As well as stitching, sewing and upcycling, we have the pleasure of running a holiday home in North Norfolk called Nutmeg Cottage.  We regularly visit the cottage to make sure everything is ready for our next guests and sometimes make time to indulge in a spot of shopping in the lovely Georgian town of Holt.

There is one little shop, Something Special, which manages to cram an amazing amount of haberdashery into a very tiny space and with its warm welcome from friendly staff and tempting goodies, we usually end up popping in for a peek!

On this occasion we treated ourselves to some gorgeous new fabric, a few metres of ribbon and lace in various colours and a couple of reels of the Gutermann thread that were really the only thing we officially went in for (but all that lovely fabric was just crying out to be sampled!).  We’re not sure how they manage to squeeze quite so much into the shop but we’re just glad they do and it’s always good to be able to buy locally and support fellow small businesses.

After all that exhausting browsing, we had to stop for lunch and one of our favourite places to eat in Holt is No. 28 on the High Street.

They offer a simple yet delicious menu of breakfasts, light lunches and cakes.  The portions are generous and the food locally sourced and the service always friendly.  It is a family-run business and it is easy to see the care and attention that go into making this a popular and buzzing place to eat.

Having left the sewing at home for a while, we headed back with our new-found materials to continue making a selection of lavender-scented animals for our upcoming stall at the Langley Daffodil Fair later this month.  It is held at the Langley School in Loddon on Sunday 12th May from 10am to 4pm and we would love to see you there!  LouLou & Will x
